Ashlee and Brett first met years go, through her brother. Though they frequently saw each other at parties and events throughout the years, they never really connected. It wasn’t until 2014 when Ashlee moved into her own place and her brother started coming over and bringing Brett that the two finally got to know one another. They immediately hit it off and began dating.
Three years into their relationship, Ashlee found out she was pregnant with their first child together. During her pregnancy, she noticed a lump in her breast. She had the lump examined and while it was initially dismissed as being pregnancy related, her doctors became more concerned as time went on. Following the birth of her child, Ashlee was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that had spread to her hip. She underwent a mastectomy and extensive radiation and is currently undergoing a trial of oral chemotherapy to target the cancer in her hip.
Despite the often-debilitating pain in her hip and her decreased mobility, Ashlee is trying her best to be an active mom to her two children. Through all of her trials over the past year and a half, Brett has been an incredible rock for their family – helping to take care of the kids, working hard and caring for all of Ashlee’s needs.
Wish Upon a Wedding is excited to grant this sweet young couple the wedding of their dreams and couldn’t do it without the incredible work of our wish granters. Special thanks to this amazing team!
Carolina and Erick first met nine years ago at a friend’s party shortly after she and her three children had moved from Florida to New Jersey. They immediately hit it off and began dating. It wasn’t long before things became serious and they welcomed their first child together. For the past seven years, Carolina and Erick have been raising their children, enjoying life and creating the foundation for an incredible love story.
The past year, on Carolina’s birthday, the couple received some disheartening news. Weeks earlier, Carolina had felt a lump in her breast and took the necessary precautions to have it checked out. Unfortunately, she was given a diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy, reconstructive surgery and an aggressive chemotherapy regiment.
She remains on oral chemotherapy and is fighting to beat cancer with Erick always by her side. This past Valentines Day, he surprised her with an engagement ring.
We were thrilled to hear Carolina and Erick’s story and are excited to grant them a beautiful day with their family and friends. The couple will marry on October 4, 2018 at the Rock Island Lake Club. We absolutely could not do what we do without the many incredible wish granters who have volunteered to help. Thanks to you all!
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Mandy, one of our wish recipients, has lost her long battle with pancreatitis. Mandy and Derek were married in a beautiful ceremony on July 7, 2016 in Indianapolis, In. We were honored to be a part of their very special day and wish their family all of our love and sympathy as their mourn the loss of Mandy.
On August 26th, 2018, Claudia and Dan stood on the steps of the beautiful Mountain View Manor in Glen Spey, NY and professed their love and devotion to one another in the company of family and friends. To say that they had waited for this day for a long time is an understatement – they’ve been happily dating for the past 29 years.
Claudia and Dan first met in 1989 when a mutual friend introduced them. They began dating right away and welcomed their first baby a year later. Soon after becoming parents, Dan proposed. While the couple had always intended to marry, life became busy and their wedding was pushed to the back burner. They went on to have another child and have spent the past 29 years making wonderful memories together. To all of their friends, Claudia and Dan are viewed as one – they are hardly ever apart and love to be around each other.
In 2012, Claudia was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. Following a painful and aggressive treatment plan that included a double mastectomy and a full hysterectomy, her cancer returned and metastasized to her bones. Through all of her ups and downs, Dan has remained her rock and her comfort.
We were honored to grant this wish for Claudia and Dan. From the gorgeous sunny day, to the breathtaking flowers, delicious cuisine and amazing band, it was a celebration to remember. The couple enjoyed a day of toasts, dancing, cake and most of all, love. We are so incredibly thankful for all of the amazing wish granters to showed up to make the day so special. Thank you!
Claudia and Daniel first met in 1989 when a mutual friend in their neighborhood introduced them. They hit it off right away and soon began dating. A year later, shortly after welcoming their first child, they got engaged – and are still engaged today! After getting engaged, the couple likes to say that “life happened”. They embarked upon many happy years together – raising 2 children, working, camping, gardening, traveling and becoming grandparents. Throughout it all, Claudia and Daniel have remained best friends. They love doing everything together – even grocery shopping – and are truly inseparable.
In 2012, Claudia received some very hard news. She had discovered a lump in her breast and after putting it off for a while, decided to see her doctor. Sadly, she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. She underwent an aggressive treatment plan that included chemotherapy, radiation, a double mastectomy and a full hysterectomy. In 2016, her cancer metastasized to her bones and she underwent a partial hip replacement. Despite the fact that her current treatment plan has come with a host of painful, discouraging side effects, Claudia remains so positive. Her doctor told her early on that it’s the positive people who have an easier time beating cancer, and she has taken it to heart. While she struggles to do many of the things she once enjoyed, she is joyful and keeps trying, all the while, with Daniel by her side.
The couple says they’ve put their wedding off long enough are so excited to exchange vows in front of their family and friends.
We are so honored to grant this wish for Claudia and Daniel and look forward to showering them with a day they won’t soon forget. As always, we are so grateful for the many wish granters who have signed up to make this day possible. We couldn’t do it without you!
On July 19th 2018, Karen and Rich stood before family and friends on the grounds of the breathtaking Cedar Lake Estates and recommitted their lives to one another. The couple has been happily married for 24 years and was thrilled to renew their vows in the presence of their loved ones.
Karen and Rich have a love story that most people dream about. They met in high school, were married right out of college – and are still crazy about each other. For years they had been dreaming about traveling once their youngest child was off to college. Just one month after she left, however, Karen began having some unexplained pains in her body. She was incredibly pro-active and demanded that her doctors run some tests. Not long after, she received the news that all women dread. Karen had been diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer.
She embarked upon an aggressive treatment program, which included a full hysterectomy and months of intense chemotherapy. Throughout it all, Rich has been her rock and has lovingly supported and cared for her.
Wish Upon a Wedding was touched by Karen and Rich’s beautiful love story and was honored to grant this wish for them. The day was straight out of a magazine. From the gorgeous scenery to the farm-to-table feast and the outstanding live music, Karen and Rich were treated to a day free from the worry of cancer. The couple mingled with friends and happily danced the night away.
On July 8, 2018, Katie and Erik gathered with family and friends at the picturesque Creekside Event Center near Denver, CO to dedicate their lives to one another. Though they are both young and vibrant, their road to the altar has been filled with challenges.
The two first met in grad school, where they were studying to be teachers. After developing a deep friendship, they started dating. Following graduation, Katie and Erik took teaching jobs in the same area. Just before Christmas in 2017, Erik asked Katie to be his wife.
Just 11 days after their engagement, Katie was diagnosed with Leukemia. Following surgery and an intense chemotherapy regiment, she is finally on the road to recovery.
Wish Upon a Wedding was honored to take part in Katie and Erik’s special day. From the amazing mountain backdrop to the gorgeous flowers, delicious food and personal touches, the couple enjoyed a beautiful day where cancer was not the focus.
As with all of our wishes, we couldn’t have done it without the incredibly generous support of our wish granters. Thank you so much!
On July 10, 2018, Chase and Alexa exchanged vows in a heartfelt and moving ceremony at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York City. The wedding, which was witnessed by a small group of family and close friends, was supposed to take place at the end of July in Boston, near the couple’s hometown but had to be moved do to Chase’s rapidly declining health. The groom suffers from a rare form of cancer called DSRCT and has undergone numerous rounds of experimental chemotherapy since his diagnosis last year.
Despite a great amount of pain and discomfort, Chase was able to stand during the entire wedding ceremony. His bride was radiant in a beautiful gown, generously donated by Gabriella New York, and his smile upon seeing her walk down the aisle was everything.
Chase was too tired to enjoy the decadent wedding cake and apple pie (a personal favorite of his) following the wedding, but he and Alexa happily feasted on it the following day.
As with all of our wishes, we couldn’t do it without the generosity of our wish granters. In particular, this unbelievable team pulled off Chase and Alexa’s wedding in just a matter of days, going above and beyond to make the day so incredibly special. We cannot thank you all enough:
Five years ago, Chase and Alexa met through a mutual friend and bonded over their interest in martial arts and Parkour. Shortly after meeting, they went on their first date and have been inseparable ever since. This past year, Chase was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer called DSRCT. Despite numerous rounds of experimental chemotherapy, his cancer and tumors have continued to spread. The couple had hoped to marry in Boston, near their hometown, later this month but Chase’s health has unfortunately continued to decline.
Wish Upon a Wedding is honored to help Chase live out his last last dying wish of marrying the love of his life. Their wedding will take place TODAY at Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City.
We couldn’t have pulled off this last minute wish with the incredible generosity of our wish granters – thank you so much!!
Katie and Erik first met while they were both enrolled in graduate school for teaching. While they initially bonded over their desire to invest in the lives of young people, they soon discovered that they had a lot more in common. Throughout their time in school they developed a deep friendship centered around a love of art, theater, hiking, and Game of Thrones marathons. In July of 2016 the two began dating and were soon inseparable.
Following graduation, Katie and Erik both took jobs at high school teachers – he teaches history and government and she teaches English and literature. In December of 2017, Erik surprised Katie with an engagement ring. “I’m not one to cry, but it was so sweet and I was so surprised,” said Katie.
Just 11 days after their beautiful engagement, Katie received some devastating news from her doctor. A few months earlier, she had discovered a lump in her neck that seemed to be growing and was making it difficult for her to breath. After several rounds of tests, she was finally given a diagnosis – Leukemia.
She underwent surgery immediately and then embarked upon a lengthy and difficult chemotherapy regiment. The chemo eradicated her immune system, forcing her to take a leave of absence from her beloved teaching job. Katie recently finished her treatments and is looking forward to a summer of recovery.
Wish Upon a Wedding was honored to hear Katie and Erik’s story and is looking forward to giving them the wedding of their dreams. As with all of our wishes, we couldn’t do it without the generosity and goodwill of the many wish granters who have signed up to help:
