A New York Love Story

When Karen first met Rich in 1988, she knew it was love at first sight. She was a senior in high school at the time and Rich had already graduated and was in college. Their first date was to a friend’s Halloween party and they immediately hit it off. They wrote letters to each other throughout college and spent their weekends traveling to see one another. In 1993, Rich proposed to Karen in his parents driveway and the two were married a year later in Jamaica.

“We had a destination wedding before they were cool,” joked Karen. Her sister had recently had a huge wedding and they were more interested in saving up for a house. They got married in a very small, low-key ceremony with just a few family members standing by. From that day forward, they have been inseparable. “We are literally one person,” said Karen. “Our relationship has been so easy,” added Rich. “We are partners in everything.”

Throughout the years, Karen and Rich have enjoyed a beautiful life side by side. “We love being outside, cooking together, tasting new craft beers, and spending time with our daughters,” said Rich.

This past September, just one month after sending their youngest daughter off to college, Karen began to notice some unsettling changes in her body. She had been a cycling instructor for years and began to experience unexplained shoulder and rib pain. After adamantly complaining to her doctor, Karen underwent a series of tests and was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. “We had spent so many years raising our girls and preparing them for college and were so excited to begin a new phase of life together,” said Karen.

She immediately underwent an aggressive treatment program, which included a full hysterectomy and months of intense chemotherapy. Throughout it all, Rich has been her biggest supporter and encourager. “He takes such good care of me,” she said. “No matter how I feel or what kind of mood I’m in, he is always so loving, gentle and kind to me.”

The two will renew their vows on July 19th, 2018 on the grounds of the picturesque Cedar Lake Estates. Karen and Rich cannot wait to recommit their lives to each other and to celebrate the wonderful years that they have had together with their daughters and dear friends.

We could not be more honored to grant this wish for Karen and Rich and are so thankful for the wish granters who have signed up to make their day incredibly special:

Southern Lovin’

On June 7, 2018, Tracy and Martin stood before family and loved ones and gave their lives to each other in a beautiful ceremony at the Restore House in Tulsa, OK. The day was draped in rays of sunshine, cooler than normal temperatures and lots of love.

For Tracy, the day was a dream come true. In 2017 she was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, which then metastasized to her lungs. Throughout the past year, she’s fought hard to remain joyful and positive, despite an aggressive and often painful treatment schedule. Martin has remained by her side though it all and their love has given her a strength she didn’t know she had.

The day went off without a hitch. From the vibrant flowers to the delicious food, fun photo booth and personal touches, like a hand blown glass pour, our wish granters truly outdid themselves. Guests lounged in beautiful furniture from Red Poppy Vintage Designs, kids played on the Restore House’s fun tire swing and everyone feasted on wedding cake from Laurannae Baking Co and an adorable Harley Davidson groom’s cake from You Need a Cake.

Tracy and Martin laughed with friends, listened to touching speeches and enjoyed a day where cancer wasn’t the focal point. Thank you so much to our amazing wish granters for their incredible generosity. We couldn’t have done it without you!

A Tulsa Love Story

For over 20 years, Tracy and Martin’s lives crossed paths multiple times, but they never met. It wasn’t until 2008, when they were both a part of the same organization, that the couple became friends. Not long after, they began dating. Though all of their friends were skeptical, Tracy and Martin proved that they were the perfect couple.

Upon first meeting them, it’s clear how polar opposite they are. While Marty has always been portrayed as a “bad boy”, Tracy is the girl next door. Together, they perfectly compliment one another. Tracy likes to say that she has softened his rough edges and taught him how to feel and that he has challenged her and taught her how to be strong – a skill she would soon need for her biggest hurdle yet, cancer.

In 2017, the couple received devastating news. Tracy had been diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast cancer that had metastasized to her lungs. Without hesitation, Marty proposed and has faithfully stood by her side through grueling chemotherapy, sickness, hair loss, exhaustion and disappointment. Tracy and Marty are the epitome of a team. They have loved and supported each other through so much over the years and could not be more deserving of this wish.

The couple will marry on June 7th 2018 at the Restore House in Tulsa, OK. We’re thrilled to grant this wish for them and are so thankful for the incredible vendors who have signed up to make their day special:

Columbus is for Lovers

On May 9, 2018, Daniel and Morgan stood in front of family and friends and committed their lives to each other in a heartfelt ceremony in Columbus, OH. For this amazing couple, the day signified a bright spot in what has been an unbelievably challenging journey.

Daniel, an air force veteran, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Ewing Sarcoma cancer at just 21 years of age. Following his diagnosis, he moved home to Columbus to begin treatments. It was during this time that he met Morgan. From the very beginning, the two learned to lean on each other through everything.

While battling cancer and undergoing an exhaustive amount of tests and treatments, Daniel took it upon himself to go to college. On May 6, just 3 days before the wedding, he graduated from The Ohio State University. Daniel and Morgan are filled with hope for their future together and believe in taking each day as it comes. Their love story has inspired so many people and we were so blessed to witness it.

From the beautiful warm weather to the overwhelming generosity of our wish granters, Daniel and Morgan’s day could not have been more perfect. The ceremony and reception took place at Highline Car House in Columbus’ historic German Village. The gorgeous brick venue provided a breathtaking backdrop for bountiful bouquets of white and blush colored flowers, gourmet cuisine, sparkling twinkle lights and abundant personal touches, like authentic German soft pretzels (Daniel’s favorite!).

The couple mingled with guests, danced their socks off and was showered with cheers, touching speeches and love. Thanks Daniel and Morgan for sharing this incredibly special day with us. And special thanks to the long list of Wish Granters who went above and beyond to leave their mark on the event:

A Columbus Love Story – Daniel and Morgan

Your twenties are supposed to be one of the most carefree times in your life. For Daniel, a retired Air Force veteran, his twenties have been a mixture of sadness, pain, hardship and love. At just 21 years of age, Daniel was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Ewing Sarcoma cancer. He was stationed in Arizona at the time and developed an unsettling pain in his knee. Following a round of tests, Daniel received the news that no young person ever wants to hear. Soon after, he was honorably discharged from the Air Force and moved home to Columbus to begin treatments.

Shortly after moving home, Daniel met the love of his life while he was out with friends. He and Morgan felt an instant connection to one another and began dating soon after. Morgan was living in Cleveland at the time and Daniel drove to see her every weekend, despite his often-exhausting chemotherapy schedule. The couple got engaged on March 15th, 2017 on the 9th green of a local golf course. They had recently taken up the sport together and Daniel surprised her with a “will you marry me?” golf ball.

Throughout the last five years, Morgan and Daniel’s love has withstood a lot of adversity. In spite of Daniel’s surgeries and numerous treatment programs, the couple remains optimistic and active. Morgan has faithfully supported Daniel’s pursuit of a college degree and they are both looking forward to his graduation from The Ohio State University on May 6, 2018. When he’s not studying for finals or recovering from chemotherapy, Daniel and Morgan love to spend time outside and enjoying traveling, boating and snowboarding. Regardless of what the future may bring, they are committed to enjoying every moment together.

On May 9th, 2018, Daniel and Morgan will gather in front of family and friends to proclaim their love to one another. We are thrilled to make this day possible for them and are incredibly grateful for the amazing wish granters who have signed up to help us.

Love in the City of Love – Kathy and Anthony

On January 31, 2018, Kathy and Anthony gathered in front of family and friends at Philadelphia’s historic Union Trust to recommit their love to each other in a touching and beautiful vow renewal ceremony. The couple first met while registering for classes in college, just over fifteen years ago. After a whirlwind courtship, they married, having dated for only one month – and they have been inseparable ever since. Three beautiful children and a whole lot of ups and downs later, Kathy and Anthony’s love is as strong as ever.

In 2011, Kathy received the news that no woman ever wants to hear. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer. With Anthony by her side, she endured a double mastectomy and months of aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Through it all, Anthony steadied her with his positive attitude, encouragement and humor. In 2015, the couple learned that Kathy’s cancer had metastasized to her bones and in 2017 she underwent an invasive surgery to remove a large tumor from her brain.Kathy and Anthony’s vow renewal was a day they will both never forget. Union Trust’s towering windows showered the couple with brilliant sunshine as loved ones gathered around them to celebrate. The evening was filled with heartfelt toasts, delicious cuisine, and dancing.

A New York City Love Story – Lily and Chris

On October 22, 2017, Lilly and Chris gathered in front of family and loved ones for a quintessential New York City wedding. The couple met by happenstance through Chris’s brother nearly seven years ago and felt an undeniable connection to one another from day one. Despite love at first sight, their relationship hit a rough patch and ended not long after it began. While separated, they never forgot about each other and eventually decided to give their love another try. The second time was a charm. Chris proposed to the love of his life on Valentines Day in 2015 and the two have been dreaming about a wedding ever since.

Lilly was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and Dystonia as a young child. The conditions, which are debilitating at times, have had a profound effect upon the couple’s relationship. From doctor’s appointments to an aggressive medication schedule and often unpredictable and long lasting episodes, planning a wedding was truly overwhelming.

Wish Upon a Wedding was thrilled to grant this deserving couple the wedding of their dreams. From the personalized caricature invitations to the breathtaking venue and gorgeous flowers, the day was straight out of a fairy tale. The morning of the wedding, Lilly experienced a disappointing Parkinson’s episode and had to delay her bridal transformation. Miraculously, her episode ended when she donned her wedding dress and she enjoyed the rest of her amazing day symptom free.

Thanks to Lilly and Chris for allowing us to be apart of their journey and to Martha Stewart Weddings for featuring the event on their website. Special thanks also to all of the incredible wish granters who helped make this day so wonderful:

Love Wins in Louisiana – Twila and Chris

On October 9, 2017, Twila and Chris gathered in front of family and friends at The Crossing in New Orleans’ historic district to proclaim their love for one another in a touching and memorable wedding ceremony.

The couple first met during their freshman year in high school and instantly became best friends. Within a couple of years, they both knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Their relationship was soon put to the test when Twila’s family relocated to Alabama in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The distance and devastation that they both endured emboldened their love for each other and confirmed their commitment. Shortly after Katrina, Chris moved to Alabama to be with Twila.

It was while the couple was living together in Alabama that Chris began to suffer from frequent debilitating headaches. She awoke one night experiencing symptoms of nausea and dizziness and was unable to stand. Twila instantly knew something was wrong and rushed her to the hospital where it was discovered that she had a brain aneurysm that had ruptured. Chris spent a week in a coma and underwent a surgery to amputate her hand and a few fingers and toes. She spent more than a year in rehabilitation and physical therapy to re-learn everything. Through it all, Twila has remained by her side and has loved her through joy and sadness.

The couple’s wedding was the culmination of years of love in the face of adversity. The celebration was filled with beautiful toasts from family and friends, delicious food, dancing and fun nods to the couple’s New Orleans upbringing including Mardi Gras masks, French horns and parasols. Thank you so much Twila and Chris for allowing us to take part in your special day. Thanks also to our amazing wish granters who helped make it possible:
